Men tried to hide body of friend who died after heroin overdose in desert

DUBAI // Two men tried to hide their friend’s body in a patch of desert after he overdosed on heroin.

On January 15, the three Indians met in International City and drove to Al Madam where they took drugs and drank alcohol. When their friend collapsed and began to vomit, the two panicked.

They left his body in an empty patch of desert close to the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services building in Al Aweer.

“We managed to find out the identity of the dead man, who worked as a truck driver,” said an Emirati policeman.

Officers tracked down the two defendants after questioning people who knew their late friend.

“They were arrested shortly after and gave a detailed story of what happened that day. They said that another friend offered them heroin but fled the country the same day,” said the officer.

The two said their friend died as they were taking him to hospital. They became scared and tried to hide his body.

At Dubai Criminal Court they also admitted to a charge of using heroin.

A verdict has been set for February 27.
