DUBAI // Two men stole clothes and shoes worth Dh1,790 from a Debenhams department store by hiding them inside a guitar case, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The Moroccans, aged 27 and 25, are also accused of stealing clothes worth Dh580 from another shop.

The older man confessed in court to a charge of attempted theft, while the other denied the charge. “I had done nothing,” the 25-year-old told judges.

A security guard at Debenhams said he became suspicious of the pair as they were trying to leave the shop in Mirdif City Centre mall on August 12.

“I stopped them and when I checked I found 12 pieces of clothes and shoes which they stashed inside the case after removing the magnets using a nail cutter and scissors, which I found in their possession too,” said the Nigerian guard.

A verdict is expected on October 31.
