DUBAI// Four drivers who were caught in possession of almost two kilograms of heroin denied knowing they were carrying illegal drugs.

On Monday, the Criminal Court heard Pakistanis S K, 23, S K K, 20, and J K, 37, were arrested on September 3 with 1.7kg of heroin in 219 capsules.

Another Pakistani, F A, 20, was arrested carrying 1.1kg of heroin in 143 capsules.

“I didn’t know it was drugs,” each defendant said in court on Monday.

Prosecutors said police were tipped off that S K and S K K were about to meet F A, a drugs mule who had smuggled the heroin into the country in his stomach.

M A, an Emirati policeman, said the two picked up F A on the Emirates Road and were intending to take him to an apartment in Sharjah.

Their car was stopped on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and all three men were arrested.

M A said “S K K said that this was not his first time he had received men from his home country carrying drugs. He had done it four times before and he took out the drugs then gave them to the buyer.

“He said the four previous times had earned him Dh7,000.”

S K K gave police the name of the forth defendant, telling them that he helped him in his drugs business. He said the drugs were intended to be delivered to a Pakistani man in Abu Dhabi.

The next hearing will be on January 15.
