DUBAI // A song composed about Maradona is turning into a viral hit on YouTube. Ali Al Khawar, who penned Maradona in Dubai, said he wrote it to thank the management of Al Wasl football club, where the former Argentina national player is manager. The video, which has had more than 34,000 hits since it was first uploaded on April 3, shows stills of Maradona in Dubai along with video footage of Al Wasl playing. "He was the best player in the world. He brought with him the world's media to Dubai and it is good for my country," Mr Al Khawar said. He said he saw Maradona play for Argentina in the 1982 World Cup but had no idea he would be managing a club in his home country nearly 30 years later. "He has a copy of the song but I don't know if he listens to it," Mr Al Khawar said. "The Al Wasl people told me he put it in his car and he listens to the song. It was in the Arabic papers that he liked it." Although Maradona managed a world-class Argentina side to the quarter finals of the 2010 World Cup, Al Wasl sit in sixth position in the UAE Pro League. Reports of Maradona going to coach the Bahrain national team were denied by Al Wasl this week.
