Man who turned his Dubai apartment into a brothel is jailed for 3 years

A man who trafficked two girls into prostitution and turned his apartment into a brothel will spend three years in prison.

DUBAI // A man brought two girls into the country and forced them to work as prostitutes, using his flat as a brothel.

In 2015, the Chinese man, 62, and a Bangladeshi man brought two girls from Bangladesh to Dubai, promising them jobs in beauty salons. When they arrived the girls, 15 and 16, were taken to the flat in a building in Al Mankhool and told they would work as prostitutes.

“I was offered the job by a countryman and when I came to Dubai in 2015, he took me to a flat run by Chinese people and I was told about my work in prostitution,” the elder girl said.

“I refused but they threatened to have me locked up for 10 years.”

She escaped a few days later after finding a key and took a taxi to the nearest police station. Officers raided the flat a few days later.

“We raided the apartment and found the women’s passports and objects used in the sex industry,” said a police lieutenant.

Dubai Criminal Court jailed the Chinese man for three years and ordered him to pay a fine of Dh50,000. He will be deported after serving his prison sentence.
