DUBAI// A 25-year-old man who touched a woman’s behind before lowering his trousers in front of her will spend three months in jail.
The Algerian victim called police on February 20 this year at nearly 1am to report that she had been molested by an Indian man.
The 38-year-old saleswoman was returning home after a night shift when the man touched her behind as she passed him on a bridge in Al Muraqqabat.
She looked at him and saw he was smiling and lowering his trousers.
“I screamed and pushed him then called police,” said the victim, adding that this was the second time the defendant had followed her.
“He followed me two days before the incident and smiled at me but I ignored him,” she said.
Six days later, she was contacted by police to identify the man who was in custody at a police station.
The defendant, who works as a driver, denied touching the woman when he appeared at Dubai Criminal Court. However, he was found guilty of sexual assault and will be deported after serving his term.
