Man who molested flatmate's sleeping daughter is jailed

The man touched the girl inappropriately while she slept in her mother's room

A man who molested his flatmate's 12-year-old daughter as she slept will spend three months in jail.

On August 7, the girl's Filipina mother, 45, returned to her Bur Dubai home at 11pm and saw that the defendant, a security guard, had invited some of his friends over.

"He was drunk and only in his underwear. I took my daughter to bed then headed to the kitchen to do some work," said the mother, who continued to check on her daughter from time to time and asked the flat owner, a Filipina, 35, to check on her as well.
The woman said the defendant, 37, went to his room to sleep after his friends left.

She said she checked on him and found him in bed, so returned to her kitchen work, but shortly after, the flat owner approached her and told her not to panic.
"She took me by the hand to my room, where my daughter was in shock. I was talking to her and she wouldn't respond," the mother said.

"The owner then told me that she walked in on the defendant to find him touching my daughter as she slept. I couldn't take it, I called police at once."
The flat owner said she checked on the girl at 3am and found the accused bending over the girl, touching her behind and back.
"I kicked him out of the room then told her mother," the landlord said.
The girl told prosecutors that she awoke to someone touching her, and when she saw the man she panicked.
At Dubai Criminal Court last October, the Filipino defendant denied a sexual assault charge, telling judges that he did not know why the child's mother was accusing him.
"Maybe she accused me of that because she is angry with me about something and she wants to frame me," he told judges.
The court sentenced the man to three months in jail after which he will be deported.
