DUBAI // A man who assaulted police officers after being caught with more than 10,000 tramadol pills hidden in his pregnant wife’s car was sentenced to nine years in jail.

R F, 31, an Emirati, was convicted of possessing drugs with intent to sell and with consuming drugs. He was sentenced to five years in jail on the first charge and four on the second. He was also fined Dh20,000.

At Dubai Criminal Court in June, R F confessed to possession but said the drugs were for personal use.

On December 17 last year, anti-narcotics officers apprehended him as he left home in Al Qusais, Dubai.

Police officers said they found a few pills in his pockets but, they said, 10,095 pills were found in the boot of his wife’s car.

“His wife told us that she didn’t drive the car because she was pregnant and that her husband was using it,” police officer A R said.
