DUBAI // An Indian man wanted on charges of murder, rioting and blackmail in his home country has been arrested.
Officers detained the suspect, a car electrician in his thirties, this week after a month-long search following a request by Interpol.
"As soon as we received the request from Interpol we started our investigation," said Brig Khalil Al Mansouri, head of Dubai Police's Criminal Investigations Department.
The man, who has been living in the UAE for about a year under the sponsorship of a private company, escaped police during a raid at an address in Sharjah, but was caught when officers tracked him to a hideout in Ras Al Khaimah.
"The man was hiding in an abandoned yard behind a carpenter workshop and he was very cautious with his movements. He went out only to buy food," said Brig Al Mansouri. "But after intensifying our search and utilising all of our resources, we were able to find him."
Police said the man had denied some of the charges against him. He was referred to the public prosecution, where he would complete paperwork for his extradition to India for trial.
