DUBAI // A man stabbed his two nephews in a row over inheritance, a court heard yesterday.
M M, 37, from Pakistan, visited the two men on June 14 this year, urging them to make an urgent call to Pakistan, prosecutors told the Criminal Court.
“I told him we were having dinner and that we would make the call when we finished eating,” recalled one of the nephews, M A.
An argument then broke out regarding a family inheritance matter and the uncle began hitting his nephews.
“After he beat me he took a knife and stabbed me in the hand and abdomen then he stabbed my brother in his abdomen,” said the nephew.
A neighbour contacted police at about 8pm and an ambulance arrived to take the brothers to hospital.
Police found the uncle sitting in his brother’s living room and arrested him.
“He confessed to stabbing his nephews during a dispute over inheritance,” police officer S K, 30, told the court.
The man denied a charge of attempted murder, saying he acted in self defence.
“I inherited a plot of land from my father and then my brother and his two sons started problems with me over the land plot. I was merely defending myself, your honour,” he said.
A verdict is expected on November 19.
