DUBAI // A jobless man allegedly stabbed a maintenance technician in the shoulder and leg before stealing two mobile phones and Dh200.

The 26-year-old Bangladeshi victim was walking with a friend near a metro station in Al Riqqa at nearly 2.30am on February 19 this year when he was attacked by the Emirati, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

“He stabbed me in the left leg and left shoulder then snatched two mobile phones, a Nokia and a Samsung galaxy, and my wallet which contained Dh200 then took off,” the victim said.

His Indian friend called police and an ambulance.

“We arrested him two days after the incident. He admitted assaulting the man because they had old differences but he denied robbing him, he also told me he never leaves home without his knife,” said a 34-year-old Emirati policeman.

The accused, 26, denied charges of robbery and physical assault.

The next hearing will be on May 8.

Real estate tokenisation project

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.

Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
