DUBAI // A labourer has been convicted of molesting a 13-year-old girl during a concert in Al Mamzar.
Dubai Criminal Court sentenced Pakistani M O, 22, to three months in jail, followed by deportation, on a sexual assault charge.
M O was also referred to the court of misdemeanors to face a charge of consuming alcohol without a license.
Indian A T was with her family on the night of October 16 when she asked her father for his mobile phone to take some photos of the band playing.
“There was a large crowd and we were all enjoying our time but about 10 minutes after my daughter took my phone, she returned crying,” said the girl’s 44-year-old father.
He said his wife questioned their daughter and the girl told her mother what had happened.
“She said he stuck his body to hers and forced her to touch his private parts, after which she panicked and ran away from him,” the father said.
The father went looking for the man with his daughter and when he found him he restrained him with the help of some other men and called for the police.
The man was arrested and found to be drunk.
In court last November, M O denied a sexual assault but admitted to consuming alcohol without a license.

Ads on social media can 'normalise' drugs
A UK report on youth social media habits commissioned by advocacy group Volteface found a quarter of young people were exposed to illegal drug dealers on social media.
The poll of 2,006 people aged 16-24 assessed their exposure to drug dealers online in a nationally representative survey.
Of those admitting to seeing drugs for sale online, 56 per cent saw them advertised on Snapchat, 55 per cent on Instagram and 47 per cent on Facebook.
Cannabis was the drug most pushed by online dealers, with 63 per cent of survey respondents claiming to have seen adverts on social media for the drug, followed by cocaine (26 per cent) and MDMA/ecstasy, with 24 per cent of people.
