ABU DHABI // A man accused of stabbing his roommate to death said he did it because he had been threatened with a gang attack, Abu Dhabi Criminal Court heard on Monday.

Z K, the Indian accused, had been working in the UAE for two years when the murder happened.

On the day of the incident, the victim did not go to work and was sleeping in his bed.

“I woke him up and then he grabbed my shirt, so I asked him why he had sent a gang of men to beat me up,” Z K told the court.

“Then he promised that he will send them again to attack me, so I grabbed a knife and stabbed him with it.”

He was asked how many times he stabbed the victim, to which he replied: “I don’t remember.

“After I stabbed him he lost consciousness and dropped on the floor.”

The court asked if he knew the family of the victim and if he could reach them.

“Yes, yes I know them and they life in the same area I live in back home, I can reach them,” he replied.

The court adjourned the case until December 28 to appoint a defence lawyer and to summon the victim’s heirs.
