SHARJAH // A man disguised in an abaya and niqab stole Dh1,000 in phone credit from 10 grocery shops in a week, police said yesterday. MS, an Emirati, visited the shops asking for Dh100 in phone credit and change for a Dh1,000 note, then drove off without paying, said Col Mohammed al Bayat, the director of the Sharjah Police Criminal Investigation Department. "Within one week the suspect stole from 10 grocery shops," he said.
Police arrested MS after receiving a number of complaints from groceries and supermarkets about a woman dressed in an abaya and niqab who had stolen from them. MS is also accused of swapping his vehicle's licence plate with one from Sharjah to escape detection. The case has been referred to public prosecutors.
