DUBAI // A man who attacked two police officers and damaged a police car while high on drugs has been jailed for 10 years.
Emirati S A, 21, assaulted the policemen as they were trying to arrest him for taking drugs.
Policeman Y S, 37, testified that he and other officers arrested S A in the Al Muhaisnah 1 area after receiving a tip-off.
“We saw him leaving his house, so we approached him, identified ourselves and told him that we had an arrest warrant,” he said.“The defendant started screaming while we were trying to cuff him and put him in the car. Then I felt pain in my leg and fell down.”
Policeman S K, 30, said while they were trying to put S A into the car he used his legs as leverage to push back on the car door.
He pushed Y S to the ground, then hit him. “We immediately called for back-up to help us restrain the defendant,” S K said.
Tests showed that S A had traces of morphine, methamphetamine and other drugs in his urine.
Y S suffered a permanent disability in the assault.
S A had denied attacking the policemen and damaging property, but admitted he had used hashish. He was also fined Dh20,000 and ordered to pay Dh150 in damages to Dubai Police.
