DUBAI // Police called to the scene of a sword attack followed a trail of blood to find the victim lying in the street bleeding heavily, the Dubai Criminal Court was told.
Prosecutors said A S, 43, and M A, 21, both Emiratis, attacked their compatriot A A, with swords on June 4 last year, leaving his blood splashed on the wall of a school in Al Quoz.
A A died of stab wounds suffered in the attack later that day in hospital.
M A denied a charge of physical assault leading to death in court on Sunday morning, while A S was not present.
Emirati A F, 27, testified that at around 6pm on the day of the incident he was contacted by his friend A A.
“He told me he was bored so I headed to his place then we went for a drive,” said A F, adding that they saw four men stood near the Aneesa Al Ansari school.
“A A stopped his car and walked towards them because he knew a couple of them. We started chatting then I returned to the car but I could see A A still talking,” said A F.
Minutes later A F heard his friend scream and saw M A stab the victim with a large knife before pushing him against the wall of the school.
A F said his friend began to run away while two of the four men chased him.
“I tried to chase the attackers in the car,” A F said, adding that he lost them. He found out later his friend had died.
Pakistani A S A, 27, a limousine chauffeur, told the court the victim stopped his car near a bowling centre.
“He stood right in front of the limo, so I stopped and got out to check on him and found him bleeding heavily. I asked him what happened but as he spoke Arabic I understood nothing,” said A S A, adding that an Emirati motorist stopped his vehicle and tried to help A A who was bleeding heavily.
“He took him to his car but the man got out and stretched out on the pavement saying that people were chasing him and wanted to kill him,” said A S A.
An ambulance was called and A A was taken to hospital.
Policeman Y A, 26, told prosecutors when he arrived at the scene of the fight at the school, he found no one there and had to follow a trail of blood to find the victim.
“I followed the blood and found A A unconscious on the pavement at an intersection. He was bleeding from all over his body, I called for an ambulance,” said the officer.
Y A later received a report of another fight in the same neighbourhood. When he arrived he found A S and M A.
“They told me they did not attack A A but in fact he had attacked them. I told them that he was badly injured and bleeding heavily, then I took them to the police station,” said Y A.
A forensic report attributed A A’s death to stab wounds.
The next hearing will be on November 8.
