Man dies after car plunges into lake in Sharjah

A police investigation is under way into the cause of the accident after two vehicles were pulled out of the water

A man has died after being trapped in a car which plunged into a lake in Sharjah.

An emergency response was sparked after police received reports of two vehicles being submerged in Al Khan lake at 11.24pm on Sunday.

Police, ambulance and marine rescue teams rushed to the scene and pulled the two cars out of the water.

“We found a body trapped in one of the two cars. He may be the driver of the car that caused the accident,” said Sharjah police in a post on its Instagram account.

Police revealed that both vehicles were unlicensed.

The age and nationality dead person were not disclosed.

Not other casualties were reported by police.

Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the crash.

Police urged members of the public not to park their cars near the sea and to take care when moving vehicles in such spots.
