DUBAI // A Saudi man told a Dubai court that he is not guilty of possessing 100 kilograms of amphetamines.
He was staying at a five-star hotel in Dubai and Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department was tipped off about his intention to sell a large amount of drugs.
“We obtained an arrest warrant and apprehended him in his hotel room. We found the drugs in his Lexus car but he said that another man had given him the car and he must have put the bags inside it,” according to an Emirati police major, who said that during questioning the defendant had confessed to consuming drugs.
Prosecutors charged the 31-year-old with possessing the drugs to sell, which he denied, and consuming drugs, which he admitted to.
The next hearing at Dubai Criminal Court will be on May 11.
