SHARJAH // A man who was sentenced to three years in prison in absentia over forgery and use of forged documents denied the charges at a retrial on Monday.
Sharjah Criminal Court had previously found the man guilty of using the forged documents for a car export, which resulted in him taking US$4,000 from an Uzbek man in March 2013.
On Monday the accused denied the charges and told the judge he received the money from the Uzbek man to book him a hotel before he arrived to the country.
“I have documents with me stating that I booked an airplane ticket and booked a hotel room for the accuser, your honour,” the accused said.
“I gave him the rest of the money when dropping him at the airport.”
The defendant is involved in a financial case at Dubai Courts and his passport has been seized.
He asked the judge to find him not guilty of the forgery charges.
A verdict is expected on April 28.
