An Asian man has been arrested in Ajman after he attempted to exchange four million in fake Indian rupees for UAE dirhams.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matrushi from Ajman Police said officers received a report about a man attempting to pass on a counterfeit 500-rupee note.
Criminal investigation officers formed a team and apprehended the illegal immigrant as he attempted to exchange the fake Indian currency for Dh130,000.
More fake rupees totalling 7.29 million were found in his house, car and workplace.
The case has been referred to public prosecution.
