Man ‘admits to grabbing woman’s bottom even though she couldn’t identify him’

Unemployed Pakistani man is said by police to be involved in another case.

DUBAI // A jobless man admitted at Dubai Criminal Court that he had touched a woman’s behind as she was waiting for the lift in her building.

“Yes, I touched her bottom,” said the 23-year-old Pakistani when confronted with a charge of sexual assault.

On April 29 two years ago, the Indian woman, 45, was waiting for the lift in International City at about 10pm.

“He stood behind me. When he did what he did, I screamed at him and chased him but he escaped,” said the woman, who called police right away.

“But because it had been a long time since it happened, when they called me to identify him, I couldn’t.”

However, the defendant was seen in CCTV camera footage grabbing the woman’s bottom.

A policeman said it took months to track down the defendant and he was arrested in August 2015 and found to be involved in another case.

“He admitted the sex assault willingly, even though the woman did not recognise him,” said the officer, 56.

A verdict is expected on March 13.
