Man accused of insulting UAE online ‘misunderstood’

ABU DHABI // A man who is accused of insulting the UAE’s symbols and leaders said he was “misunderstood and was defending the country”, the Federal Supreme Court heard.

A S D, 28, is charged with establishing and running social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram where he published information on the banned Muslim Brotherhood organisation.

He also posted information on Twitter that insulted the symbols and leaders of the country.

He claimed his statements were taken out of context and misinterpreted.

The case was adjourned to November 2.
