DUBAI// Two maids waited until their sponsor’s home was empty before stealing phones, cameras, perfume, clothes and other items, heard a Dubai court.

The Kenyans, M O, 27, and M A, 39, confessed to a charge of theft when they appeared at the Dubai Criminal Court this morning and asked for the court to deliver its verdict as soon as possible and be merciful.

Prosecutors said the women worked for their Kuwaiti sponsor until March 5. They are accused of stealing five mobile phones, an mp3 player, three cameras, four mobile-phone covers, a laptop, four pairs of sunglasses, 10 bottles of perfume, 18 women’s purses, three bags, and two travel bags filled with women’s clothes valued at Dh80,000.

Their sponsor S A, 57, said that she discovered the items were missing on March 5 and the two maids had also gone.

“They managed to take everything and flee,” said S A, who called police immediately.

The two were arrested shortly after and the stolen items were found in their possession. They confessed to police and the prosecution. A verdict is expected on March 30.
