DUBAI // A maid who stole a gold necklace belonging to her Italian sponsor’s five-year-old daughter and jewellery from her mother has been jailed for three months.

Kenyan F M, 41, also stole a set of pearl earrings, gold earrings and another gold chain from her employer’s villa.

Italian pilot N S told prosecutors that the maid lived at the villa in Al Furjan.

On April 12, he said his wife noticed that several items of jewellery were missing from her drawer. “My wife found the missing jewellery hidden in a small box in the maid’s room. She waited until I came back from a trip and told me about the theft,” said the 41-year-old pilot.

Policeman A H, 34,said: “The maid was confused when we talked to her, and told us that she found a gold necklace while cleaning the house and hid it in her bedroom,” he said.

At Dubai Criminal Court, the maid confessed to theft but claimed she stole only the necklace belonging to the daughter.
