ABU DHABI // The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KF) has pledged to pay the expenses for the deportation of 250 pardoned prisoners from different nationalities to their home countries.
The gesture came in implementation of the directives of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the follow-up of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The pardoned prisoners who were serving the jail terms to be followed by the deportation could not afford to pay for their return tickets.
A KF source said that all the necessary procedure to deport them had been completed and the foundation had already deported the first batch through the country’s airports.
He added that through this project, the foundation aims to enhance its programmes and projects at the local arena as well as provide support to the poor and needy people.
Beneficiaries extended thanks for the foundation’s initiatives which would avail them the opportunity to spend the rest of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr among their families at their home countries.
This project is one of many the foundation has launched during the holy month. The KF has funded the distribution of thousands of Iftar meals in Belarus, Jakarta, Paris, Senegal, Colombia and Gaza, to name a few of the 50 recipient countries. It has also distributed aid packages to families in South Lebanon and north Tunisia.
Since it was founded in 2007, more than 80 countries have received help from the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
