SHARJAH // Anti-narcotics officers at Sharjah Police and the Ministry of Interior, along with the Coastguard, have foiled a crime network specialising in drug smuggling.
Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister publication of The National, reported Operation The Hunter, resulted in the seizure of 118 kilograms of drugs and the arrests of 10 people.
The men were Arabian Gulf, Asian and African nationals.
The drug shipment was seized on board a freight ship along with four seamen, all Asian.
They were in charge of smuggling the drugs into the UAE through Khalid Port in Sharjah, where they would then deliver them to their accomplices who live in the country, the law-enforcement agencies said.
After further investigation, the remaining members of the criminal gang were arrested.
All have been referred to Sharjah prosecution.
