DUBAI // DP World announced that its flagship Jebel Ali Port was voted the ‘Best Seaport, Middle East’ for the 20th consecutive year at the Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (Afsca).
The winners were announced at a function in Shanghai, state news agency Wam reported on Sunday.
Jebel Ali Port’s win consolidated the terminal’s position as the region’s modern and efficient gateway, top officials said.
“Jebel Ali is now raising the bar again by shortly opening Container Terminal 3 which will be the world’s largest semi-automated facility with fully remote controlled quay cranes and automated yard cranes,” said Mohammed Sharaf, the group chief executive officer of DP World.
“Jebel Ali is among the leading terminals in our industry, thanks to outstanding performance by our UAE team in Dubai who have made it possible to sustain this award-winning performance.”
The award was received by Kris Chang, the managing director of DP World China on behalf of DP World, UAE.
Afsca has been organised by the transport and logistics newspaper Cargo News Asia for the past 28 years. Established in 1987, the awards cover air and sea ports, air cargo and containers and the top green service providers.
At Afsca, Emirates SkyCargo retained its Best Air Cargo Carrier Middle East title and Dubai International Airport again won the Best Airport Middle East award.
The Shanghai ceremony was attended by senior figures from transport, logistics and supply chain firms from across the region.
Mohammed Al Muallem, DP World’s managing director said the port operator was committed to investing in its facilities in line with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
“We are proud to retain this prestigious award for two decades and particularly proud that it is an award decided by those who use our services – our customers,” he said.
Jebel Ali Port’s new terminal will feature 19 of the largest quay cranes and 50 automated rail- mounted gantry cranes, which will be remotely operated from a control room.
