DUBAI // A drunk man who bit off the tip of his roommate’s finger during an argument was found guilty of assault on Monday by the Dubai Criminal Court.
Sri Lankan S H, 29, confessed in court last month but said he did not mean to do it. He also admitted consuming alcohol.
Prosecutors said that on June 28, the defendant was drinking in his accommodation when his roommate arrived.
“I saw him drinking in our room and then we had an argument,” said the victim K K, 54, from Pakistan. “He attacked me and bit my finger, chopping its tip off.”
The victim, who was left with a six per cent permanent disability, did not mention the reason for the argument.
SH was sentenced to a year in jail and was fined Dh2,000 for consuming alcohol illegally.
