ABU DHABI // Nine newborns at the Corniche Hospital gave their parents another reason to be thankful on National Day.

Dana Al Yammahi was the first baby born on Wednesday.

“We were preparing for National Day celebrations and our baby’s birth has added so much delight for our family,” said her mother.

Staff distributed gifts and sweets to all mothers and their babies.

Haya Mohamed Al Amro was the second baby greeted by staff in the maternity wing.

“We are blessed to receive such a wonderful surprise on this day,” said her mother.

“I had never imagined that my baby’s birth would coincide with National Day.”

The family of Maha Zayed Al Zaabi hoped she would grow up with some of the characteristics of the UAE’s founding fathers.

“It is an incredible feeling to have a baby on this day and I feel so fortunate,” said her father, whose daughter was handed to him wearing a knitted cap and white blanket.

“National Day means a lot to us and we hope that our child has the qualities of our great forefathers who led our nation to greater heights.”

Staff at the hospital said that National Day celebrations had added a special festive element to the welcoming of the babies.

“The new arrivals made it a very special National Day for families with their lifetime beginning on this significant day,” said Linda Anne Clark, chief executive of the Corniche Hospital.

“We are pleased to be part of this joyous occasion and strive to make this beautiful journey an unforgettable one for the mother and the baby’s family.”
