International Human Rights Commission official praises UAE’s commitment to human rights

ABU DHABI // An International Human Rights Commission official has praised the UAE’s commitment to enhancing human rights and maintaining a record consistent with international practices.

Salwa Ghadder Younes, IHRC’s ambassador at large for world peace and humanity said the UAE has a comprehensive vision for human rights, which emanates form the belief that humans are the core of any development process according to the state news agency, Wam. Ambassador Salwa’s statements were made during her current visit to the UAE during which she spoke of the country’s constitution granting equality, social justice, civil liberties and religious freedoms. “The UAE works constantly to update its legislations to be more consistent with its commitment to the universal declaration of human rights and relevant international conventions, as well as to its rich culture, heritage and religious values of tolerance, equality and justice,” she added. Before taking up her current position at the IHRC in September, 2013 Ambassador Salwa occupied the role of Ambassador at the International Organisation for the Interfaith Speech and Civilisations of the World.
