Illegal worker falls from Abu Dhabi highrise trying to dodge arrest

An Asian housemaid who had been living in the country illegally fell to her death from the eighth floor of a tower block in Abu Dhabi while trying to evade arrest.

"The fear of the 28-year-old maid, RA, of being arrested for violating the residency law, led to her death," said Col Rashid Mohammed Borsheed, director of CID at the Abu Dhabi Police.

"When an inspector knocked on her door to issue a violation for displaying laundry, she thought he was in search of illegal residents, so she tried to climb down a drain pipe and fell to her death."
