ABU DHABI // Ayesha al Janahi, a graduate from Dubai Women's College (DWC), describes herself as an "IT geek".
She paid tribute to her father, who gave her the freedom to follow her favoured academic path.
"I've always loved technology," Ms al Janahi said. "Ever since I was younger, I was intrigued by its possibilities. My father told me that once I graduate from high school I should make my own decisions."
The 27-year-old Emirati, a co-founder of EmiraTweet, said the dynamic of technology is what drew her to the field.
"Technology is constantly changing. I like to learn something new every day. I don't want a rigid, routine job," she said.
After receiving her bachelor's degree from DWC, Ms al Janahi went against advice of her friends and pursued a master's degree in computer science at the British University in Dubai. When Ms al Janahi was working on the final project for her master's, she was married with her first child on the way, and had a full-time job. But that didn't stop her. "In fact, it inspired me," she said. "For my project, I decided to create a website that provides prenatal and post-natal support for women."
Currently an IT consultant at Dubai Holding, Ms al Janahi said that employers have no excuse not to hire women.
"I believe that women can create miracles," she said. "When people ask me, 'Ayesha do you think you're a superwoman', I tell them, 'yes, I am. A superwoman will do what it takes to reach her dreams'."
