Teenage son stepped in to prevent the attack continuing

A husband prevented from continuing to beat his wife by their teenage son has been sentenced to six months in prison.

The court heard the 16-year-old stepped in to stop the ongoing attack after hearing his mother’s screams.

Before reaching the pair, the hearing was told that the Emirati husband, 43, had beaten his wife with a clothes hanger and threatened to cut her throat.

He denied the charges but was found guilty and ordered to pay his wife Dh21,000 in compensation and Dh1,000 in legal fees.

Dubai Criminal Court heard how the incident took place at about 3am on May 19 of this year in Dubai.

Prosecutors said the couple had been having marital problems for a number of weeks prior to the assault.

“He was demanding that she get out of the house,” the son said.

“I remained standing between them to stop him from resuming his assault until my mother left.”

The Iranian woman, 31, told prosecutors that her husband attacked her and ordered her to leave their home.

“As I picked my stuff up to leave my son stopped him from attacking me again,” she said.

“He was insulting me in front of our son saying that I was an indecent woman, using inappropriate vocabulary.”

She told the court that her husband threatened to cut her throat and bury her at their home if she came back.

She later reported the incident to police. Officers then charged the man with physical assault and well as issuing insults and death threats.
