Du was inundated with complaints on social media after hundreds of customers were affected by a home internet service outage.

Irate customers took to Facebook and Twitter to report problems with the service on Sunday evening.

According to the website downdetector.ae, which tracks problems with internet providers in the UAE, there were 721 reports made during the peak of the problem at around 8pm.

Although the bulk of the difficulties related to Wi-Fi, there were also complaints about access to mobile data.

The issue appeared to be widespread throughout Dubai.

One post on Facebook's British Expats Dubai page asked whether Dubailand was the only area affected by the outage, but many replied they had also lost access to the internet.

Affected areas appeared to include Dubai Marina, Arabian Ranches, Motor City, Sustainable City and Remraam.

“According to du customer care, it was an Emirate-wide issue," wrote one customer. "Seems to be back now though."

"Was dark times, having to watch previously downloaded movies,” wrote another.

Dozens of customers also complained on Twitter, including Dubai 92 radio presenter Catboy, who posted a picture alongside the caption: “What to #DU when there’s no internet… Puzzles with the girls.”

It is not known whether the problem extended to Abu Dhabi.

The telecom operator has been contacted for comment.
