ABU DHABI // Artworks by women who have been victims of human trafficking are on display at a new show in the capital, called Silent Voices IV.
The exhibition will display and sell work by 24 victims who are recovering in the Ewa’a Shelters for Victims of Human Trafficking in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.
The show, organised by the shelter and the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, is running at the Pearl Court in Yas Mall until Thursday.
Hoda Al Khamis-Kanoo, the founder of Admaf, said she hoped the exhibition would raise awareness of people smuggling.
“The strength, courage and determination of the women of Ewa’a is to be admired,” Ms Khamis-Kanoo said.
“From artworks that convey the fear and darkness of life, to pieces that reflect optimism and desire to reinvent the future, we can see the positive impact art can have on people during their rehabilitation.
“The issue of human trafficking is something that needs to be brought to the fore, and I greatly admire the team at Ewa’a for their commitment and determination to help the women on the road to recovery through the power of art.”
The show consists of 80 artworks, including paintings on canvas, tables and plates, priced at Dh150 to Dh7,000.
