Honda recalls 2,701 cars in the UAE for electric window fault

A fault in the electric window mechanism has prompted Honda to recall 2,701 cars.

DUBAI // Honda is recalling 2,701 cars in the UAE to repair a fault that could cause the electric window mechanism to fail.

The move is part of a worldwide recall of almost 1 million vehicles for the same reason.

The models affected in the UAE are the 2006 to 2008 City, and the 2006 CR-V.

"The recall affects 1,555 City models and 1,146 CR-Vs in this country," said Arijit Basu, the general manager of sales for Honda Middle East.

"The problem is something we could have ignored and affects the master switch in the window, which can result in the window failing to operate."

He said Honda had not received any complaints from customers in the region, but decided on issuing the recall as a precaution.

"We will be delivering the spare parts to Al Futtaim Honda, who will contact the owners and replace the parts for free."

Internationally, the recall affects 960,000 Honda cars including the Fit, CR-V and City models.

This is Honda's third recall of the summer.

Last month, more than 2,000 Honda Accord coupes manufactured from 2008 to 2010 were recalled due to a potential fault in the automatic transmission that could stall the engine.

In July, the Japanese carmaker recalled almost 7,000 Civics sold in the UAE between 2009 and 2010 because of a fault in the water cooling system that could shut down the car's engine.

In May 2010, Honda recalled 245 cars due to faulty brakes, affecting the Odyssey and Element models made in 2007 and 2008.

In February of this year, Honda owners in the Emirates were unaffected by a global recall of almost one million 2001 and 2002 Accord, Civic, Odyssey and CR-V models due to faulty driver-side air bags.
