Helicopter landing on Sheikh Zayed Road halts traffic

All six lanes on Sheikh Zayed Road heading towards Abu Dhabi was stopped to allow for the emergency landing.

Abu Dhabi-bound traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai ground to halt after an Australian driver hit an Asian man who was illegally crossing the six-lane highway at around 7am.

Police closed off all six lanes to allow a helicopter to land and airlift the victim to hospital.

Cars were backed up from Ibn Battuta to The Greens this morning as a result.

According to a spokesman at Rashid Hospital, one person was flown in for treatment with medium to serious injuries.

Traffic began moving normally by 8.45am.
