ABU DHABI // The heirs of a Bangladeshi housemaid who was allegedly beaten to death by her employer will accept blood money in compensation for a death sentence, the Criminal Court heard on Tuesday.

SH, an Emirati, has been accused of beating the victim to death, imprisoning her in the house against her will and recruiting her while she was not on her sponsorship.

Her defence lawyer, Ali Al Abbadi, claims the victim was an old woman and died when she fell in the shower.

“When police arrived, they found a big wooden spoon in the kitchen and accused SH of beating her with it. There was no blood even found on the spoon,” the lawyer claimed.

Mr Al Abbadi asked for his client to be bailed out, but the court refused as defendants in murder cases cannot be granted bail.

The case was adjourned until September 8.
