ABU DHABI // Health Authority Abu Dhabi (Haad), Abu Dhabi Sports Council, National Health Insurance Company - Daman and Yas Marina Circuit on Wednesday launched a fitness initiative to encourage people to begin their week on a healthy note.

Anyone who wishes to use Yas Marina Circuit to walk, jog or cycle will be able to do so between 6pm and 10pm on Sundays from October 11 as part of the new StartYAS initiative.

“Over the past years, we have seen a significant rise in chronic diseases associated with unhealthy lifestyles, obesity rates, cardiovascular disease and diabetes,” said Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, chairman of Haad. Because of this “we prioritised raising awareness of the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles”.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, general secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the organisation’s goal was to get every person possible to participate in regular exercise.

The new initiative is in addition to TrainYAS and GoYAS, held on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, which attract more than 4,000 people every week to run or cycle at the circuit.

Al Tareq Al Ameri, chief executive of Yas Marina Circuit, said the addition of a third initiative would make a significant contribution to the well-being of residents.
