Landmarks in Abu Dhabi were lit in blue and white on Thursday night to mark World Wish Day.

Warner Bros, Ferrari World, Clymb and Adnoc headquarters were among the buildings illuminated to celebrate the work of Make-A-Wish Foundation, which has been granting the wishes of critically ill children in Abu Dhabi since 2010.

The licensed charity has fulfilled the wishes of more than 4,700 youngsters in the UAE.

It was founded in Phoenix, Arizona, in the 1980s after police granted the wish of leukaemia patient Chris Greicius, 7, to become an officer for the day.

Others heard about it and decided to start the Make-A-Wish Foundation to offer hope to other children with critical illnesses.
