Vaccinations for the flu season

Ras Al Khaimah Hospital has launched a vaccination drive ahead of flu season to help prevent the spread of the illness.

Flu vaccines are recommended for everyone above the age of six months, especially for high-risk groups such as older people, young children or people who have compromised immune systems, the hospital said.

Influenza is highly infectious and complications can include bacterial pneumonia, ear or sinus infections, dehydration and worsening of chronic medical conditions.

As many as one in five people can catch influenza during any given flu season, the hospital said. Flu shots are typically administered starting in September.
