UAE residents urged to read product labels

DUBAI // The public have been urged to read warnings on the labels of personal and home care products, particularly those that may contain dangerous components.

Eng Sultan Al Suwaidi, deputy head of the Public Health and Safety Department at the Dubai Municipality, stressed the importance of choosing products with no or mild fragrances, noting that fragranced products contain multiple chemical components, increase indoor air pollution and can affect children and people with respiratory illnesses and sensitive skin.

He asked consumers to check labels for information before buying a product as a family member may be allergic to one of the chemicals, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
