Three UAE Mers patients recover from virus

Health Authority Abu Dhabi said the patients had tested positive for Mers after routine screening procedures but recovered without needing any treatment.

ABU DHABI // Three people who had been diagnosed with Mers have been released from hospital after making full recoveries from the virus.

Health Authority Abu Dhabi said the patients had tested positive for Mers after routine screening procedures.

They were kept in isolation in hospital as a precautionary measure but recovered without any treatment.

State news agency Wam said Haad and the Ministry of Health had followed the World Health Organisation’s precautionary measures regarding Mers.

In a statement, the Ministry said: “the epidemiological investigation centres in the UAE were working round the clock to early report any detection of virus.

“The health system is active in the country and the Ministry is following the situation closely to ensure the health and safety of everyone.”

In June, the WHO reported that an 11-year-old child and a 46-year-old woman, both expatriates who lived in the eastern region of Abu Dhabi, had contracted Mers from a relative.

Since September 2012, WHO has been notified of 1,368 laboratory-confirmed cases of Mers across the world, including at least 489 related deaths.
