UMM AL QUWAIN // A supermarket has been closed and fined for selling an Indian chewing tobacco to school pupils.
The Public Health and Environment Department at UAQ Municipality received complaints from a school on the matter, said Ghanem Ali, head of the department.
“Inspectors were sent to inspect the supermarket, confiscate the prohibited substances and close the shop,” Mr Ali said.
“The department will continue their duties by intensifying its efforts, inspection and control on food outlets, and it will apply the law against the offenders and do awareness campaigns for school students.”
Parents should be cautious and alert to what anything their children consume, he added.
Mr Ali also appealed to the community to cooperate with the municipality and report the sale of banned substances by calling 0506866011 or through the application called smartuaq.
