Shelter launches radio awareness campaign on how to tackle child and domestic abuse

A shelter for woman and children has launched a radio campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence and child abuse in the home.

The programmes will show how families can deal with and resolve family disputes.

It was launched by the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children and will feature on radio channels across the UAE.

Afra Al Basti, director general of the foundation, said the aim of the campaign was to “raise public awareness about the ways of resolving family disputes and strengthening the bonds within the family and protect its members”.

“DFWAC works to educate the community through two main lines. The first is on how to build a stable family environment to ensure a safe and healthy upbringing for their children and the second is raising awareness about the different types of domestic violence and child abuse.”

Ms Al Basti said most domestic violence cases are caused by family disputes and the awareness of how to build stable families and resolve differences among family members is important to prevent domestic violence.

The foundation organises regular awareness campaigns about domestive violence and child abuse through lectures, seminars and publications. For more information visit www.dfwac.ae

War and the virus
What are the main cyber security threats?

Cyber crime - This includes fraud, impersonation, scams and deepfake technology, tactics that are increasingly targeting infrastructure and exploiting human vulnerabilities.
Cyber terrorism - Social media platforms are used to spread radical ideologies, misinformation and disinformation, often with the aim of disrupting critical infrastructure such as power grids.
Cyber warfare - Shaped by geopolitical tension, hostile actors seek to infiltrate and compromise national infrastructure, using one country’s systems as a springboard to launch attacks on others.
