ABU DHABI // Men’s health has improved because they no longer believe they are invincible, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, has said.

“Before that admission, they probably accepted the ancient male myth that nothing can hurt them,” Sheikh Nahyan told a men’s health conference on Thursday organised by Medeor 24x7 Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

Men grew up believing that manly behaviour is characterised by “the denial of pain, the flaunting of caution, an indifference to dangerous habits, a disdain for physical examinations and medication, a refusal to acknowledge any health problem, and a belief that, even if they have to die one day in the distant future, they will be the last to die,” said Sheikh Nahyan.

Doctors from the UAE and 13 other countries attended the conference, held at Jumeirah Etihad Towers hotel, according to Wam, the state news agency.
