Hana Al Shamlan donated blood for the first time two months ago and would encourage others to follow in her footsteps.
The 32-year-old section manager for Dubai eGovernment, said there was no greater feeling than giving the gift of life. "I just wanted to help others," she said. "Giving something without asking for anything in return feels great.
"I think giving blood is a very nice and generous act and helps people, such as those suffering with thalassaemia, who are in desperate need. Giving anything, be it blood or any kind of charity, is good for the soul."
Ms Al Shamlan was inspired to give blood by her sister, Alia Al Shamlan, who is a regular donor, and did so at a blood drive held at her workplace.
To donate blood, guidelines state you must be in good health, aged between 17 and 65 and weigh more than 50 kilograms.
The Abu Dhabi Blood Bank is located in Khalidiyah and is open for donations from Sunday to Thursday between 7am and 9pm, and on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm, irrespective of public holidays.

Retail gloom
Online grocer Ocado revealed retail sales fell 5.7 per cen in its first quarter as customers switched back to pre-pandemic shopping patterns.
It was a tough comparison from a year earlier, when the UK was in lockdown, but on a two-year basis its retail division, a joint venture with Marks&Spencer, rose 31.7 per cent over the quarter.
The group added that a 15 per cent drop in customer basket size offset an 11.6. per cent rise in the number of customer transactions.

Safety 'top priority' for rival hyperloop company
The chief operating officer of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Andres de Leon, said his company's hyperloop technology is “ready” and safe.
He said the company prioritised safety throughout its development and, last year, Munich Re, one of the world's largest reinsurance companies, announced it was ready to insure their technology.
“Our levitation, propulsion, and vacuum technology have all been developed [...] over several decades and have been deployed and tested at full scale,” he said in a statement to The National.
“Only once the system has been certified and approved will it move people,” he said.
HyperloopTT has begun designing and engineering processes for its Abu Dhabi projects and hopes to break ground soon.
With no delivery date yet announced, Mr de Leon said timelines had to be considered carefully, as government approval, permits, and regulations could create necessary delays.
