Ras Al Khaimah rescue teams have found a toddler who had been missing overnight on the UAE's highest peak.

The boy, 2, was reported lost on Jebel Jais by his family on Friday evening before sunset, RAK Police said on Saturday.

Search teams spent 12 hours scouring Jebel Jais – which is 1,934 metres high – looking for the boy who went  missing during a family trip.

The search continued through the night and the toddler was eventually found at 6am on Saturday.

The Hazza Fazza adventure team found the boy asleep, with nothing worse than a few scratches.

Authorities handed the child over to his parents and warned the family against trekking without support and guides in an area that can be treacherous for inexperienced hikers.

RAK police gave no further details about the incident.

Police and rescue teams issue frequent warnings about the dangers inexperienced hikers can face in the UAE's mountains.
