ABU DHABI // Health officials recently met to discuss the adoption of 90 new complementary medicines that have been submitted for registration.
Complementary medicine is used in conjunction with standard medical care to treat conditions.
The medicines cover a wide range of categories, from drugs used for various illnesses such as liver disease and diabetes to those that act as tranquilisers to nutritional supplements, said Dr Amin Hussain Al Amiri, assistant undersecretary for the Ministry of Health’s public policy and licensing sector, who heads the Higher committee for Registration of Complementary Medicine in Dubai.
Sourced from different countries in European Union, the United States and Australia, the medications are subjected to strict registration criteria to ensure their quality and effectiveness of efficacy.
Ministry officials and representatives from Health Authority Abu Dhabi, Zayed Complex for Herbal Research and Traditional Medicine, and Dubai Municipality attended the meeting.
