Fujairah Municipality has sent workers to stop labourers from dumping uncollected rubbish in Murbah after residents voiced their concerns.
Municipality workers noticed that some labourers living in the vicinity were tearing into rubbish bags during the early morning hours. They were taking what would be useful to them and throwing the rest on the ground, according to Abdullah Al Hantoubi, deputy director of the municipality.
The area is now being supervised by the municipality and is scheduled for renovation.
Mr Al Hantoubi said municipality workers adhere to a rubbish collection schedule and do their best to keep public areas clean. Members of the public have the responsibility of doing likewise, he said.
“Reconstructing the area by removing old houses and replacing them with new ones is part of our 2040 master plan,” said Mr Al Hantoubi.
The municipality said it took residents’ comments and feedback seriously and used them to improve its services.
“Resident satisfaction is part of our success and we welcome any comments or issues on our hotline, 80036, that operates 24 hours,” said Mr Al Hantoubi.
Residents have thanked the municipality for its response to the littering problem.
“During the past few days the municipality has worked so hard on correcting the situation. They became more active and we all respect that,” said Salem Al Kabi, 43, one of the residents who filed a complaint about the situation.
“The problem has been taken care of and we are satisfied with the results and hope it will continue in the same rhythm.”
Mohammed Humaid, head of Qidfa and Murbah Municipality branch, said that residents and companies who sponsor foreign labourers should ensure that the rules are followed.
